Permanent magnet motor for marine applications developed by VICUSdt begins to be manufactured

The new permanent magnet motor for direct drive marine applications is in the production phase. This engine developed by VICUSdt is an important step forward in the direction of research conducted by the company, which is investigating new types of direct drive electric motor with high torque density. Furthermore, this engine (25 kW) is a new milestone for VICUSdt in the race for consolidation within the sector of innovative electric drives.
This is a multipole synchronous motor in which permanent magnets Neodymium guarantee high magnetic field density, achieving high efficiency in power to weight ratio. The device will be manufactured with an innovative winding in the stator (fixed part of the rotary), which reduces up to 40% by weight of active material.
In this case, encapsulation is performed through polymers of new generation, achieving effective protection against corrosion in marine and submersibles applications, as well as becoming more compact systems that can work in extreme conditions.
VICUSdt working with an prestigious company in control engineering, working on new solutions for the operation of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors.
It also undertakes the manufacture of a new test bench to test engine performance at nominal operation, and to study its response to potential failures (short circuit, etc.).
The sea tests will give to the team the key data for the development of new high-density electrical machinery power within other lines of research:
- Naval machinery
- Aerospace engineering
- New technologies of wind turbines
- Wave energy
- Automotive
