10-10-2009 ARMON VIGO relays on the finite element method analysis with VICUSdt

ARMON VIGO is one of Spain's most dynamic shipyards and has a brilliant career as a specialized shipbuilder. The Shipyard has previously collaborated with VICUSdt in newbuilding V061, the fisheries cooperation ship Intermares in which VICUSdt undertook the following tasks:
- Design of a rudder CFD optimized and adapted to the propeller wake, reaching a 4% improvement in propulsive performance of the ship.
- Analysis of flow lines in the hull for the location and orientation of the bilge keels.
- Measurement of power in the shaft torque meter during sea trials.
The shipyard requested VICUSdt to carry out a finite element analysis of the sterntube connection with the hull.
The study, done in record time to meet the deadlines set by the classification society, has included the following tasks:
- 3D modeling of the area to be tested.
- Evaluating the boundary conditions
- Definition of loads
- Study of design alternatives
- Meshing and analysis by the finite element method.
- Analysis of results in collaboration with the technical department of the shipyard.
- Preparation of final report to the shipowner and classification society.
We analyzed several structural solutions and the effect they have on efforts in the connection regions, selecting the most appropriate option.
The 3D modelling was carried out with Siemens NX CAD, and the simulation was carried out with the code FEMAP 10.1 finite element analysis, also from Siemens.
VICUSdt specializes in mechanical and structural analysis by finite element method, these capabilities combined with his expertise in fluid dynamics simulation, allow the company to undertake any type of analysis in the industry.
